Now that New Hampshire International Speedway has been sold off to corporate America, deftly renamed the New Hampshire Motor Speedway and put in the hands of people who count success by the millions, what's to become of the track's two annual NASCAR Nextel Cup Series races?
Do they stay or do they go?

Bruton Smith does nothing but screw up perfectly acceptable racetracks. Nothing good can come from this, either with dates or the physical plant.
Look at the money "we" paying fans save.
Don't plan on 2 for 2009.

There are several questions that come to mind which probably won't be answered for awhile.
1. Will the new owners honor the reserve tickets from fans who have been supporting the track since they started Nextel Cup races?
2. Will they still run Busch East-Whelan Modified races as part of the Nextel Cup weekend?
3. What will happen to the other specialized races like SCCA, the antique car shows, etc.?
I certainly don't blame Papa Bahre for taking the money. Hell, at 80 years old, he isn't going to stick around forever. I'll miss him.
In my past life as a motorsports reporter, he was one of my favorite interview subjects. He'd come up with some great one-liners, some of which couldn't be printed!

Who cares about Bob Bahre? SMI will turn that lame-ass track around or bulldoze it for good and put hack reporters like this guy back in the woods were he belongs. Stick to Unity Raceway, dude.
Honestly, NHIS has closed down as many tracks as SMS has. Lots of chicken littles running around yelling the sky is falling.
You know Smith isn't afraid of the expense to put on good racing, and his tracks seem to be open to the smaller events too.

Andy is wrong - NHIS didn't close down anyone; only Bruton has done that here. "He isn't afraid of the expense to put on good racing." He's never put on good racing at any of his tracks; all he does is screw them up.

Supposedly Bruton wants to switch the Mods-Busch East races to stand-alone events, which sounds like a good idea until one remembers those events were dropped after 1996 because they didn't draw enough
