NORTHEAST MOTORSPORTS EXPO: White moving forward

Failure, as they say, is not an option. At least not in Doug White's mind.

The Wiscasset Raceway owner is set to begin his first full season at the facility after purchasing the track last summer. Honored this weekend as the state's Promoter of the Year by the Northeast Motorsports Expo, held at the Augusta Civic Center, White is hoping to spring Wiscasset forward by reaching back into the past.

I'd like to know how a guy who ran a track for two months gets the "Promoter of the Year" Award? That isn't saying much for the award.

Sure, he took over a track that has had some issues in the past, and he started sprucing the place up, but he didn't by any means "Promote" the track for "the Year." So, please explain how he can be given such a title?

He's right too...with the purses and points funds he's paying, you can be sure everyone will be watching his track with an eagle eye.

Who would you have chosen Tristan?

Not sure of their names, but the guys who re-opened Spud Speedway might have been a good choice too. It's nice to see racing back up in The County again.

Greg Veinote of Spud Speedway for taking a track that hasn't been in operation for over 5 years and turning getting it up off the ground, would be my #1 choice.

After that, I would say Tom Curley, since it is the "Northeast Motorsports Expo," not the "Maine Motorsports Expo." Then a tie between Andy Cusack and Bill Ryan for 3rd/4th. Then Tom Mayberry, Del Merrit, and Ralph Nason rounding out the top 7.

But that's just my opinion.

While I agree with your sentiments, Tristan, it's important to note that Spud wasn't open for an entire year.

I like Veinote as the choice, but, really, it's not much different than what White did, at least in terms of promoting a track for a full year.

Yeah, I'm being a little nitpicky -- but my wife tells me that all the time...

Tristan, Doug White doesn't even make your top 7? Come on.

I'm not going to speculate on who should (or shouldn't) have won this award...

But I will say that Doug White and DNK has always stepped up in the past on numerous occasions to provide racefans and racers with some big time racing events that we all have enjoyed...

He also has sponsored many race teams at a level unmatched by anyone here in the State of Maine....

In general, he's been good for racing!

I'm glad he won an award no matter what it was for....

Doug's bound to do a super job as the owner/promoter at Wiscasset.....JMO

I'll 2nd that Tenbomber. Doug White has always been a great supporter of racing.

Actually, that was an oversight on my part. I would have put him in there with Andy and Bill.

Spud was open from June, on. Which for up in the county, didn't they still have snow in June? Haha.

Yes Wiscasset was open all year, but White didn't promote the track on his own until August.

Although I do agree that Doug White has done a lot of good for racing in Maine and he has supported the sport for many years as a sponsor. But that doesn't get you a "Promoter of the Year" award when you run a track for less than 2 1/2 months.

Sorry if you don't agree.

Boy, that Tenbomber never misses a chance to suck up for free passes at another track - give it a rest already!!!

It's been pretty clear that the Northeast Expo is really just the PASS expo. I don’t think anyone out in the real world takes it too seriously, so my guess is that this little show won’t be around that much longer. It’s too bad for those racers and fans in that part of ME, but if the event organizers want to make it a little clique club, then that’s their right.

...uh I paid about $2500 in admission fees in '07, how much did the tenbomber pay?

I pay to attend ACT sanction races just like I do for PASS, DIRT, NASCAR, and all the races I take from PA to Canada over the course of the summer.

I don't pander to anyone because I don't owe anyone anything, can you say that?

Yeah you are quite the hero my friend... look at all you do for racing!

I hope it gets right in your grip that I will continue to get a press pass and sit in your seat...

Cause I will!... (just to spite you)

Hows that for pandering Andy?

You can kiss my butt!
