A race with no name -- for now

Sometime in the last 10 days or so, Wiscasset Raceway dropped DNK as the sponsor of its marquee event later this summer.

Instead of the DNK 250, the Super Late Model race promising to pay $30,000 to the winner on Aug. 17, the race is being called the Center of Speed 250. But, it's not expected to stay that way long.

Wiscasset's sales and promotions director John Crawford said the lack of a sponsor doesn't reflect any trouble with financing the event. In fact, he believes it's a sign that the race is bound to be a slam-dunk in the racing community.

On the heels of a story about Rob Towers comes one featuring John Crawford - yikes!!!

Just maybe it's time the short track industry take inventory of the people associated with it and do a little house cleaning and restore some respectability?

What used to be a “sport of champions” is quickly turning into a “den of thieves”.

If short track racing doesn’t clean up it’s act, it really will be lights out, and I’ll be one of those helping to throw the switch.

andy i dont know your problem with john is as you obviosly dont know how much good john has done for racing around central me. he turned unity around with his staff in 3 short years. allmost lost his life trying to cover racing for us fans. and now with doug and staff is helping to turn wisscasset into a better facility. ya he made a mistake in his personal life but to my knowledge hasnt screwed any one over. remember there is always 2 sides to a story. we raced at wiscasset once last year. john remember us at tha gorham show last week, thats a good memory, and got us all signed up for this season. as usual you judge by a few not the majority. sonny harris.

seems andy's problem is if anyone is running pro stocks he could care less about the. if the 250 was a lms race wiscasset would be the best track around. i have nothing against lms car for they put on one hell of a show sometimes better then the pro stocks.myself i dont think pro stocks are dead yet. they just need some stucture to help cut the cost.if some of these track would of cut the cost of the cars they would still be around
