Class of the field

No surprise in the latest Unity Raceway point standings.

It's been a 2-car show for most of the spring in the track's Super Street division, with Mark Dodge of Anson and Brad Bellows of China the class of the field from the 107-lap main event that opened the season there weeks ago.

Currently, Dodge owns a 10-point lead over Bellows. Hal Stratton of Belgrade is 52 points behind Bellows in third. In a weekly field averaging fewer thana dozen cars, Dodge and Bellows -- both of whom have Super Late Model experience -- could probably both start and park their cars for 3 straight weeks and still have an advantage over Stratton.

This place needs more cars. In a division that costs so relatively little to run by todays standards, it's mind-boggling that more guys don't turn out -- especially because it's the only track in Maine running on Friday nights.

Where have all the cowboys gone?

there is nothing cheap about any of the super street class in the state of Maine...i've run up to Unity now the last 5 years an with the money i've spend i could have made a pretty damn big dent in my house loan..good thing u don't need to build a new car every year..an now there running the American Racer 704's for tires an you got to buy outside tires every two weeks to run up front...that $200 bucks rite there...plus gas..plus gas for truck..plus the money you loose when u leave work early to get to the track so u can get some practice in....I think before you write stuff in the paper an on here you need to look into things deeper an get more opinions...racing isn't cheap an its getting worse every year...

Hi Heath. That's why I used the word "relative" in terms of the cost of running one of those cars. Compared to running a Late Model or a Super Late Model, obviously, it costs less to run a Super Street.

Hey, racing's expensive -- we all know that. I just wish there were more cars in a division that I enjoy watching.
