Pro Stocks: Full speed ahead

At a time when racetracks across the country are axing the Pro Stock division from their weekly lineups, Farmingdale's Doug White is adding the class.

After 22 race teams turned out for an informational meeting on Wednesday night, White officially stamped Aug. 4 as the return of the Pro Stocks to Wiscasset Raceway. The division -- which will be sponsored by the father of two-time PASS North Series champion Johnny Clark, John Clark -- will race an undetermined distance each week for a winner's purse of $1,200 under PASS rules.

There will be eight Pro Stock features this season, including a 100-lap event on Sept. 8., and a full season-long schedule in 2008. Additionally, the PASS North Series has a 150-lap race scheduled for Aug. 19 at the track.

I know..kind of funny, but you cant really blame Doug to much. He's excitable and has a lot of energy. Those are good qualities to have.

Hopefully his pockets are real deep too. To pay the purse he will need about 650-700 people more each week to go through the front and back gate. That's if it's 1/2 and 1/2. If he doesn't get them in the front gate, he needs about 480 people more in the back gate ALONE.

Doug is a nice guy, but maybe a little too optimistic for Wiscasset...

Doug is like Tom Mayberry. Apparently he doesn't care about losing money. Those are the only kind of people keeping Pro Stock racing on life support. I know they mean well, but that doesn't make it smart business.

i want to know how many people think latemodels will be so cheap when there the only thing around. do you people not get it they will spend just as much on a latemodel in 5 years as they do on prostocks now its all about winning and money is no objest to be the fastest in any kind of race car

Except when you have engine rules and shock rules that prohibit teams from going out and just outspending the competition. That is the model for the Late Models at OPS and in New England right now. If you can't buy the extra horsepower or Penske shocks, you will not be spending the extra $$$...
